FAQs

Q:  How do I join the Chapter?
A:  To join, click here.

Q:  Are there different types of membership levels?
A:
Yes.  An individual may join the USGBC South Florida Chapter in one of three membership categories:

  • As an employee of a National USGBC company ($45.50)
  • As an Emerging Professional $55)
  • As a Chapter Member ($65)
  • As a Student Member ($26)

Membership dues for a Chapter Member are in addition to the USGBC membership dues paid by an individual's company, organization, government employer or professional society.  Click here to access and application.

Because there are two organizations -- the National USGBC (in Washington, DC) and the South Florida Chapter, membership can be a little confusing.   In essence, companies join at the National level and individuals join at the local Chapter level.  Chapter membership allows any individual, regardless of whether or not his/her company is a National member, to affiliate with the USGBC and take advantage of local Chapter benefits.  So, in essence, USGBC membership is split.  As such, joining at solely the Chapter level does not allow the corporate entity to be represented, and joining solely at the National level does not convey Chapter membership to individuals.  Employees of National companies are, however, eligible for discounted Chapter membership dues (see first bullet above).

A Student Member is an individual enrolled as a full-time student at a local college or university.

Q:  What educational events can I attend?
A:
The Chapter and the Branches host many educational events including LEED workshops, seminars, study sessions, case studies, tours and documentaries. You can find a full listing of events by going to our calendar here.  Chapter membership allows full and free access to the monthly Branch meetings that take place three times each month.

Q:  How can I become involved with the Chapter?
A:
There are many opportunities to become involved in Chapter activities. The Chapter is divided into three Branches to better serve our area.  They are the Treasure Coast/Palm Beach Branch, the Broward Branch, and the Miami-Dade and the Keys Branch.  Each Branch has active committees involving everything from hosting events and setting up workshops to assisting with other Branch and Chapter activities.  Contact the Chair of the Branch nearest you to learn how you can become involved in this most fulfilling of volunteer activities. Branch contact information can be found here or you can contact our Executive Director.

Q: What committees are there?
A:  There are committees at both the Chapter and Branch levels. Related activities include Membership, Education, Programs, Financial, Communications ... and more!  Contact the Chair of the Branch nearest you to learn how you can become involved at the Branch level. To learn about the activates on the Chapter level, contact our Chapter’s Executive Director.

Q:  What sponsorship opportunities are available?
A:
The Chapter and the Branches have numerous tax-deductible sponsorship (and associated keen marketing) opportunities available for businesses and individuals, including seminar and workshop sponsorships, annual events and sustaining sponsorships.  See our Donors, Sponsors and Charitable Giving opportunities here or contact Lee Cooke, our Chapter’s Executive Director.  Please visit our current Donors Circle membership here
