    In a nutshell ...

    This workshop will provide you with an understanding of the scope of the LEED O+M rating system, examining all prerequisites and credits.  

    It will also provide you with the Continuing Education credits/units noted below.

    Description:  This workshop introduces the credit intents, key elements, main requirements, and reference standards of the Green Building Operations + Maintenance (O+M) LEED rating system. Workshop participants will gain a solid understanding of the core concepts and strategies behind a successful existing green building project. 

    Throughout the day, our LEED Faculty instructor will engage you in discussions and interactive activities based on real LEED projects to enforce what you’ve learned.  

    Additionally, the course will help you:

    • Recognize the goal, intent and unique aspects of credits and strategies to meet them.
    • Identify the minimum program requirements.
    • Understand the unique aspects of the EB: O+M rating system (including process differences).
    • Understand the costs and benefits of EB:O+M certification.
    • Identify requirements and strategies to meet prerequisites and key credits.
    • Plan for key considerations and requirements for the LEED certification process.

    WHO SHOULD ATTEND:

    Professionals (architects, engineers, construction managers, contractors, developers, attorneys, etc.) already familiar with the core concepts of LEED; individuals pursuing GBCI’s LEED AP BD+C credential; LEED APs following the prescriptive path; LEED APs looking to brush up on the BD+C rating systems.

    Instructor:  LEED Faculty Member Rob Hink.  One of the region's most popular instructors, Rob brings real-world work experience and an infectious enthusiasm to his classrooms.

    This course is appropriate for new LEED APs, as well as those pursuing GBCI's LEED AP Building Operations + Maintenance credential

    Workshop participants will discuss the roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders in the LEED process, as well as strategies for communicating with team members at various stages of that process.   

    It will also provide you with the Continuing Education credits/units noted below.

    Description:  This course is intended for building owners, operators and suppliers who are familiar with the LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance Rating System, but new to implementing it on projects or looking to brush up on implementation best practices. It is also useful for design professionals, investors and others seeking to enhance their existing buildings with green operations. At the end of this workshop, you should be able to apply your new found knowledge to real-life LEED projects.

    Completion of this class will help you prepare to take the Green Associate Exam.

    Description:  There are many Green Associate Exam Prep courses taught in South Florida, but very few are being taught by USGBC LEED Faculty who are fully accredited and trained to offer this type of education.  This full-day course offers an overview of the LEED framework; concepts of integrated design; and policies and procedures for working within the LEED program.  Attendees will learn of the resources available to help prepare for the exam (including sample tests), and gain an understanding of sustainable design strategies in the built environment for site management, water use, energy use, resource management, and indoor environmental quality.

    LEARNING OBJECTIVE

    • Get you to pass the LEED GA exam!
    Instructor:  LEED Faculty Member Rob Hink.  One of the region's most popular instructors, Rob brings real-world work experience and an infectious enthusiasm to his classrooms.

    Miami-Dade Branch's FIRST August Program (the 14th) -- LEED Gold Building Tour and Sustainable Foods Cooking Class

    The Miami-Dade Branch of the USGBC South Florida Chapter has an enviable track record of hosting outstanding educational programs and tours, and this month's program is certainly no exception! 

    We are pleased to present this month a unique learning experience that blends both green building and sustainable lifestyles concepts.  Join us to learn about the strategies and practices implemented at the Miami Culinary Institute's (MCI) building to achieve LEED Gold Certification, and participate in a special cooking class focusing on sourcing sustainable foods.

    The program will begin with a champagne reception featuring a sampling of small bites created from both organic and locally sourced ingredients.  A presentation of the different components of the newly constructed MCI building to achieve LEED Gold Certification will follow the reception.   Finally, all attendees will participate in an exciting cooking class focused on sustainable ingredients to prepare a full meal.

    Annual Meeting of Members 

    Be sure to mark your calendars for October 8.  It's time to celebrate you -- our remarkable members, our exceptional volunteers, our dedicated leadership, and our wonderful donors -- during the Annual Meeting of Members.

    Leave your ties and heels at home, for this will be a laidback gathering where Chapter members are invited to an evening of celebration, camaraderie and information-sharing.  Your Chapter has much to be proud of -- so much has been achieved by our five Branches and the Chapter in the past year!  Join us for an evening of light fare and exceptional networking with members and industry professionals, as well as introduction of the newly elected Chapter and Branch leadership.  Our evening will include a State of the USGBC South Florida Chapter address, a Summary of Financial Condition, various Branch and Committee reports, and awards of appreciation.
